Claudy Jongstra’s Monumental Artwork “Landscape of Mercy” at Aliée İstanbul
Tersane Istanbul continues to host world-renowned figures of contemporary art within the inspiring atmosphere of the Golden Horn. Aliée Istanbul inaugurated its new art season with “Landscape of Mercy,” a site-specific monumental textile installation by internationally acclaimed Dutch artist Claudy Jongstra, celebrated with an exclusive reception held in her honor. Unveiled alongside the 21st edition of Contemporary Istanbul, the installation bridges ancient craftsmanship, natural materials, and ecological stewardship through a contemporary lens, taking its permanent place within Aliée Istanbul’s growing art collection.
The Transformation of Ecology, Craft, and Regenerative Agriculture into Art
Renowned for her large-scale wool and natural fiber compositions, Claudy Jongstra masterfully fuses age-old artisanal techniques—such as felting, carding, and botanical dyeing—with biodiversity and regenerative agriculture research. The work is crafted entirely from sustainable fibers, including rare Drenthe Heath sheep wool, Sekem cotton, organic silk, and Spanish merino wool. The colors animating the composition are extracted from botanical pigments such as madder root, woad, weld, walnut husk, sage, and Japanese indigo. Rethinking humanity’s relationship with nature through a lens of regenerative reciprocity, Landscape of Mercyestablishes an intimate dialogue with the architectural texture of Aliée, creating a shared space for reflection.
